You’ve got elemental attacks and weaknesses like in Pokemon, but also the cutting/piercing/blunt weapon types of Monster Hunter, and on top of that you’ve got the speed/power/technical attack types. For Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on the Nintendo Switch. So like in the main MH series, you’ve got to make armor and weapons out of monster parts to improve your character.Īnd then you’ve got several rock/paper/scissors systems stacked on top of each other. Mechanically, it’s similar to Pokemon in the way that you collect and train monsters, but also different in that your character is also on the field. And then you finish the story and that’s where the real challenge starts, as you unlock high rank monsters that are significantly more difficult than anything in the main game. Still, it’s harder than Pokemon, and every once in a while it throws an optional fight your way that requires some real strategy (or grinding) to get through. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly hard, though that might be because my obsessive need to always clear everything before moving on led me to become extremely overpowered and stay that way throughout the entire game.
